I don't actually plan on updating this diary more than once a day in the future, but I figured I would add another entry today because its all new and everything. Plus I just finished spending a sometimes exciting-sometimes boring week and a half in the lab without access to a computer to do this sort of thing, so I am kind of slacking today.
I am going away with my two Australian friends, Melissa and Aaron this weekend to Lugano. That's in the southern part of Switzerland near Italy. I am really excited, there is an international film festival near by Lugano, so Saturday night we are going to see some sort of art flick. Then on Sunday the plan is to take a short hike. It would be a day hike, but I still can't really carry a backpack because of my stupid cliff diving experience, so, that's my problem.
Last week when we went hiking to Rhinfalls (those are the biggest waterfalls in western Europe), I made about half the trip, 10 km, but couldn't do the second half. I didn't feel so bad about that since it wasn't exactly the backwoods, and there were train stations and stores every mile or so. But we will probably go hiking in the mountains near Lugano, so I really won't have as much of an opportunity to turn back.
After the hike, I think I am going to veg out on the lovely lake there. People in Switzerland seem to swim everywhere, lakes, rivers, streams, whatever source of water they can find. I am going to follow that method, especially since I probably only have one month of good weather left before it starts getting dreary here again. Its been so hot this week (though it is finally thunderstorming), a swim will be nice.
