Domestic Bliss

Looks like Byron and I are going to have another week of domestic bliss, as his first trip got deferred. (Yes, the schedule has really changed this many times). Which is good, because yesterday I was getting all melancholy about how much I was going to miss him while he was gone (while also eagerly awaiting a little alone time!)

Though the whole thing has definitely been bizarre. The other day he taught himself how to use a sewing machine (he is easily bored). By the end of the day, he was teaching Cari its features (and its Cari's machine!). Last night he woke me at 1 a.m. to ask my opinion on going on an overnight offshore cruise in Galveston Bay this weekend. 1 a.m.! I told him I'd have to think about it when I woke up...

But I am glad he's going to be here for July 4th because we're going to take some friends out on the boat to watch the fireworks. I was going to take his boat and the friends out without him. But really, his boat is like his other girlfriend, and though I am pretty competent at such things, I'd kind of feel like I was cheating on him or something going out without him.

Sarah and I must have been thinking the same things about travel yesterday. I am really ready to get somewhere that is actually pretty in the summer. I've been trying to balance some way to get to the Rockies (so far not working) and the cottage (still waiting on Byron's schedule before making a decision) and, all the while, these pictures from my last trip to hike in Colorado (though I've hiked in other places far more recently) keep popping up on my screen saver:

Piles Of Rock
A little bit of hope for the places I'll go, a few memories of the places I've been, and some humdrum in between to fill the white space.
