Hotel California

So, after being dragged up rocks in Arizona, up to the lake with a million members of my family, and skiing (for his first time ever), it was Byron's turn to pick a vacation. One that fit into the constraints of the end of his simulator training and the uncertain start date of his IOE (that's his first actual flying trip, which could be anywhere from two weeks to two months after he gets back from ground school.)

I said, "Tell me what you want." His response: "You know that Corona commercial? Where the two people sit on the white beach, staring at the waves and drinking a Corona with a lime in it, while the palm trees sway in the wind? I want to go there..."

So, we googled and researched Belize (doable, easy to get to from Houston, but surprisingly expensive for a good hotel), Jamaica (cheap, but harder to get to), the Virgin Islands (expensive, and surprisingly long travel times with multiple layovers to get to), and going back to Mexico, where you may recall I went with Byron after only knowing him for a grand total of 3 weeks last year.

And after all that, we settled on going back to what I'm going to call the Hotel California, "our resort" in Mexico. Yes, the same one we went to last year, and yes we are that boring, but it was a nice place and the more we researched the more we found they had the right combination of beach front accomodations, price, free use of sailboats and wind surf boards, included meals (essential if you want to stay away from the city), and location.

This time we're going to go explore different Mayan ruins (longer hike), go SCUBA diving (now that I'm legal), and deep sea fishing, so the trip won't be exactly the same. (Last time it was Tulum, snorkeling, and ziplining).

If you also want to join us for a weekend in a Corona commercial, let me know, the more the merrier.

Piles Of Rock
A little bit of hope for the places I'll go, a few memories of the places I've been, and some humdrum in between to fill the white space.
