made up words

The space program tends to make up words.

I was reading some meeting minutes today and came across "derigidize".

First of all, is rigidize even a word? Then to make it de-rigidize?

English people, its our first language, and we still make up words!

On a completely different subject, I was listening to the rage of the media pundits this morning over Obama's pastor. Jen O linked to this very good article on his speech. What I find interesting is all these people are saying that its the problem of black churches that have no place letting policy, either foreign or domestic, enter into their sermons. Why the shock? In modern times, you regularly hear priests in white churches speaking of policy all the time -- abortion, birth control, evolution, sex ed, prisons, the death penalty, foreign policy toward Israel all reguarly are spoken about from the pulpit nation wide. No one is outraged when our politicians hear sermons on these things. Historically, churches have tackled controversial topics ranging from the American revolution to slavery to suffrage. But somehow racial inequality or policy toward Iraq is off limits?

I also agreed with Jen O that I was shocked that Obama would insult his grandmother in the speech.

You can't separate your religious beliefs from your political beliefs. The question in my mind isn't Obama's pastors right to say what he said, but whether Obama's religious beliefs lead him to think the same thing.

Piles Of Rock
A little bit of hope for the places I'll go, a few memories of the places I've been, and some humdrum in between to fill the white space.
