Yesterday was a pretty cool day. If I do one exciting thing on a weekend, like flying or sailing or whatever, I consider it a pretty good weekend. Yesterday, I went flying AND sailing. Flying AND sailing. In one day. Yes, in one day. Flying AND Sailing. (Need I repeat that again?) Life would have been perfect if I wasn't a horrible person and didn't totally forget in the ectasy of flying and sailing on the same day that I was supposed to go to the baseball game with Jen. You gotta feel really bad standing up a date with a pregnant woman to see a baseball game. Of course, I think her husband stepped up and took my place. As he should. Shall I repeat, flying AND sailing.
I went flying with the husband of a friend of mine from work. He needed a safety pilot and I needed an excuse to go flying. So he flew out under the "hood", which is a device that prevents you from looking out the window so you fly only on instruments. However, since we were flying under visual rules, I shared piloting responsibilities by looking out the window for oncoming traffic. Its harder than it seems, trust me, especially when you're flying low, opposite a pattern, with a lot of Saturday morning traffic coming and going. Then we switched (not seats, because he's an instructor so he just flew from the right side, but responsibilities), and I flew back. It was basically the perfect day for flying.
After a quick run home to change, I met I.B. at the boat (yes, Sarah, big step, I posted a picture of him to the right) and we took off for the bay. Unfortunately a good day for flying (light and variable winds) turned out to be not such a good day for sailing. So we got out on the water, hove to, and just drifted while drinking beer and talking. It was fun, though I have to say I like the wind-driven action a lot more when it comes to sailing.
So, in answer to your incessant questions, yes, I did just break the bank with frequent flier miles to go down to Playa Del Carmen for the weekend with him. Or the weekend by myself if it turns out I don't like him by this weekend :). Life's short, carpe diem and all. (I *think* this is where we're staying. Look, this is so spontaneous, I don't even know the details. But there's a beach and a swim up bar, so I it meets all my requirements for a lazy vacation.)
Today my plans are: walk the dog, eat sushi, play tennis with Debbie.
