My brother thinks I'm too young to have a mid life crisis. But I swear its just because I'm sick of having empty rooms in my house. My dining room is empty (see picture on previous entry, its the blue room). A table (which would be the second one in the house) costs a lot of money, especially if you include chairs. I am getting a $500 tax refund this year because I estimated my rental income based on having two roommates all year, and I didn't. That is just enough to buy either a foosball (or is it fussball?) table or an air hockey table (the latter will have to be used for that price).
So, the question is, which do I get?
foosball: I am better at it; up to 4 people can play; takes up less space so it fits well, but might actually look too small in the dining room.
air hockey: coolness factor; only 2 people can play; takes up more space so it might look nicer in the dining room, but a full size table (7 feet) actually makes the area where the players stand a little tight (my dining room is 11.5' long)
Sarah's going to make fun of me now because of my comments about responsible uses of tax refunds.
why not a pool table. much cooler than the two you mentioned.
otherwise my vote is foosball

I like both. I think foosball tables are easier to maintain.

I will resist making fun of you, and instead say:
Foosball.
Because it's fun, and because you're "the table is too small" is a non-reason.

7' pool table. Classier than the others, lots of fun, and you can put a top over it when you want a dining room for formal occaisions.
Otherwise, air hockey. Foosball is fun and silly, but will look absurd in a dining room.
If you live by yourself, a pool table is the ideal. You can play with friends (up to four people), play with a single friend, or play solo. A foosball table will just make you depressed that you are by yourself when you walk by.

I'd love a pool table, but its out of my price range.

Oh, and I don't live by myself. I have one permanent roommate and occasionally a second roommate.

Hogwash on pricing, pool tables come in all prices and quality. Sure a $400 pool table can't compete with a $4000 triple slate table, but it will be plenty fun to play on, and you can upgrade it in a few years if you need a better table.
Mizerak 7 ft. Pool Table, Acclaim -- 7' Pool table for $249.00 from Sears
Mizerak Coventry Billiard Table with Slatron bed -- A Slatron, fake slate, table for $599
Walmart.com has several options in the sub-$500 range for pool tables.
Air Hockey is definitely cool however, but foosball at home, bleah, and the tiny table will look silly in the dining room. If you go foosball, put in a poker table as well, and at least make it a rec room... or an arcade machines, or SOMETHING. :)
