The good news is that I haven't got any spam comments in 3 days. The bad news is that it appears my comments are completely broken. Help...!

Actually, I take it back. I peaked into my files and saw my movable type comment file had been disabled by my server company (Dreamhost) and I got this message:

Hello Rebecca,

I'm writing to let you know that it looks like your mt-comments.cgi
file located at pilesofrock.com/mt/mt-comments.cgi was being abused. It
was causing the load of the server to rise pretty steadily, so I had to
temporarily disable it. You can reenable it at any time by renaming it
back, but you might want to take a look at this article beforehand to see
if there's anything you can do to help secure that script:

Unfortunately, despite the spam filter in place by the latest version movable type, my blog does get thousands of spam comments that I find impossible to manage. So later, I'm going to implement a few of the suggested strategies to get rid of spam comments. Until then, no comments for you.
