Ah, Bobs Lake

My aunt wrote a great entry about Bobs Lake today. Its one of my favorite places on earth. Its not even because our cabin is particularly fancy (actually, its upkeep tends to be reflective of the status of my father's love life). Or that the lake is particularly spectacular (ok, the lake is beautiful, but so are all the other lakes in the wilderness I've ever seen). I love that there's always a million people there.

But most importantly, I love the pace of life at the cottage. In my youth, we had no t.v. and no telephone (though now that my dad is spending more time there, we have both - and not even a party line telephone anymore either!). It is so easy to fall into a simple routine there. You wake up with the sun. You make a yummy breakfast. As the sun gets higher, you throw on a swimsuit and head down to the dock with a good book. As it gets warmer, you alternate reading with swimming. As the afternoon goes on, you may build a fire at the dock and roast hotdogs. Or you might do a craft project. Dad and Nick are probably building or fixing something (I always avoided that!) In the late afternoon, its time to jump on a jet ski, or go waterskiing, tubing, or cliff diving (or all of the above). I'm great at driving tubers -- I once made a MARINE friend of mine jump off the tube because he was scared of the whirlpool I was about to drive him over. Then dinner's are always big and fun. After dinner, entertainment is a game of cards or a board game. Repeat as necessary until its time to go home.

This year my plan is to go to the cottage the week of July 4th. Its sounds like my family's trip to Maine in August is going to turn out to be a second cottage trip due to lack of rental unit availability, so I may actually go a second time. I miss the cottage. Its been two years. If I lived in the northeast, I imagine I would be going there nearly every weekend if I had the chance.

Here's a couple links to pictures of the Lake: here and here.

Oh, while I'm at it, anyone want to live at castle/schloss/chateau en Provence avec moi?

Remember Me?

Piles Of Rock
A little bit of hope for the places I'll go, a few memories of the places I've been, and some humdrum in between to fill the white space.
